The first gathering of the Retirees and Senior Members of Nestor United Methodist Church was called by Murlin & Gladys Fernbaugh on January 29, 1981, for a Potluck noon dinner. Thirty-six people attended that first meeting and the dream of a fellowship and service organization for seniors became a reality.
After dinner, Ralph Kircher suggested the winning name: PRIME TIMERS! The average age of those present at that first meeting was 69, with two at 85 and one at 53. They voted to meet on the 4th Thursday of every month for an 11:30 Potluck, a period of social visiting, and perhaps a work project from time to time.
Murlin and Gladys coordinated the group until Delmar and Clois Watkins took over in February 1983. Grace McQueeney helped by calling members to remind them of monthly meetings.
