In 1964, a "Wesleyan Service Guild" was organized as an auxiliary to the Women's Society of Christian Service to provide opportunities and resources for growth in understanding and spiritual power and to share in the church's witness, service, and outreach.
Mrs. Marguerite Taylor, a congregation member back in the 1960s, said, "The group started as a support group for the many service wives whose husbands were often out to sea. They all had young children, and the responsibilities and being alone brought on stress and loneliness, which the group supported." Former member Connie McGuire recalls that the group's goal was to provide and maintain a Nursery for the babies and younger children of the church.
In the 1960s-1990s, the Wesley Anns carried on the tradition that the original group of caring and dedicated women started. Their mission was to help women deepen their knowledge and experience of God as revealed in Jesus Christ and to challenge them to respond to God's redemptive purpose in the world. Although the group is no longer operating, its legacy continues to inspire.
