The United Methodist Women, formerly known as "Ladies Aid," were reorganized as the Women's Society of Christian Service in September 1940 in compliance with a plan of the National Church Board. The society has played a significant role in the church's work. During the days of the Ladies Aid, they funded their annual budget and many church bills by cooking dinner each month for the community. Although the kitchen was stretched to its limits, the whole community looked forward to "Cook's Night Out" since there were no restaurants in the area. In 1965, the name was changed to Women's Society of Christian Service, and it remained as such until 1973, when the Methodist Church united with the United Brethren Church and became known as the United Methodist Church. The women also changed the name of their group to the United Methodist Women. Their efforts still have significantly impacted both the church and the community.
